You probably hate physics, for most it is incredibly boring. Physics = equations + lots of learning. What goes up must come down is all you need to know right? But what if I were to tell you that you can increase your strength and independence using some really simple physics principles, a few design adaptations, and a sprinkling of One Precious Life know how?
All long term conditions are associated with a decline in physical strength and independence at some point or another dependent on management and the actual condition. Often this decline in strength reduces independence, which sucks (sometimes unscientific terms are required to truly represent my feelings). Everyday necessities such as turning on taps and loosening bolts can become extremely difficult. It may be necessary to make expensive adjustments to your house or ask family and friends to help you complete tasks that you’d ideally like to complete yourself.
Regardless of one’s current abilities we all want to be stronger.
Luckily for you, torque = moment arm x force (*universal frown and scratch of the head*). What this means is that if you have lost strength and you can no longer apply the force you once could to an object, or if you could never generate the necessary force in the first instance, you can increase the distance at which you apply the force to the object turning around a pivot point subsequently still achieving the required torque (angular force) to cause the desired end result. Ok that’s still a load of physics babble poorly written in a really long sentence…
What I’m trying to say is if you get a longer spanner you may be able to turn that bolt, if you extend the length of your tap handle, you may be able to twist it more easily. Try to increase the distance of your application of force from the point at which your trying to turn and you may be able to increase you tap turning, screw loosening ability.
That article certainly didn’t come out how I planned. Way to butcher a perfectly good subject area, Jack. Hopefully it’s helped you out nevertheless!
