Traditional weighing scales only give us a total weight figure. If you want to know how much of your body is fat and how much is muscle then you’d need to find some bioelectric impedance scales, or find somebody who knows how to use some skinfold callipers.
But now you can do this with a handheld device that could be mistaken for being an iPhone. With its specially designed electrodes, you place the device on a muscle, and in less than a second it can tell you how much of the area is fat and how much is muscle, and how defined and strong the muscle is, giving you an overall ‘muscle quality’ rating.
By sending these results to your smart phone app, you can track your improvements in muscle quality each week, using this to tailor your workout programs.
The Skulpt Aim is such a simple and innovative device that it recently received an International CES Innovations Award, and is up to four times more accurate than the bioelectrical impedance scales you’ll find in your gym.
Skulpt Aim is available for shipping from August 2014, at a pre-order price of $149 (£88).
