I’m sure you were as keen as we were to get an update on John Harrison’s world record attempt. We are pleased to report that the inspirational 99 year old swimmer is now a world record holder and not only did he beat the 50 meter backstroke record, he smashed it by 15 seconds – with a finish time of 1 minute and 29.78 seconds!

Mr Harrison, who turns 100 in July admitted he felt nervous before the race at Godalming Swimming Clubs open meet, but once the race began John was cheered on by a packed spectator gallery and his team mates.

John also set new British and European records for the 100m freestyle event, showing that age really is no barrier. It is never too late to start exercising and seeing the health benefits, and John continues to compete to encourage others to be active too – what a great inspiration.

John looks to break even more records in his next challenge, where he will be competing in the long course of the same events in the K2 competition in Crawley.

Good luck John!
