Accessibility is a common problem for wheelchair users, even since the Disability Discrimination Act and the Equality Act. Stairs in public places and building entrances prove a huge obstacle for wheelchair users and in some cases this may limit their ability to access buildings without assistance.
Some accessibility solutions are difficult to use whilst others may be constrained by listed buildings or aesthetics, but the Sesame system from Allgood Trio has created a way to overcome this. They have created a retractable stair lift platform that can be installed beneath existing stairs, providing an innovative solution to ensure access for all whilst concealing the lift and providing pedestrian access whilst it’s not in use.
The Sesame system is activated automatically or at the touch of a button to retract the existing stairs and reveal the lift. Whilst I expect the Sesame system may come at a heavy cost and it might not be most practical for every building, it certainly provides a concealed and space efficient way to improve accessibility.
