Zepp: The Intelligent Swing Sensor

The competition at the golf course could soon be hotting up with the release of the Zepp sensors.

These sensors are designed to track and analyse swing motions, being designed specifically for baseball bats, golf gloves, and tennis rackets.

By attaching the sensor to your golf glove the sensors will transmit the golf swing data back to your smart phone, evaluating the quality of each swing, tracking the speed of the club head, and the shape of the swing. After your round you can sit down and watch a replay of your swing, comparing it to previous swings. The app will also compile all your statistics, with the option to share them with your coach or friends.

For the tennis enthusiasts amongst us, the Zepp tennis sensor is placed at the bottom of racket handle, being barely noticeable during play. Like with the golf sensor, the data is transmitted back to your smart phone giving you a variety of information such as a shot summary of the number of back hands and forehands, a spin analysis such as percentage of flat, slice, and topspin hits. You can also see how much power you generate with each shot and see your statistics for the entire match, which can be shared with others.

The Zepp sensors are a promising development for swing sports where analysis usually requires the use of intrusive devices which are not very user friendly for either the amateur or professional athlete. Zepp sensors retail from $149.99 (£89).
